How has the role of Human Resources changed in the last 20 years? 10 years? 5 years? Where will it be in the future?future of human resources

In a recent article in the WSJ titled “Career Journal: Changing Human Resources Strategies for Success” by Judhajit Das, Das says today’s HR professionals “can no longer afford to be just recruitment specialists.” Das suggests that Human Resources professionals should be more involved in the development of the organization and of its employees.

“Rapidly growing businesses which are increasingly focused on high productivity will need their HR team to deliver more than just new hires. Meanwhile, the emergence of a young workforce or “Generation Y” heralds a tectonic shift in workforce management because of their different attitudes towards employment, career, and life philosophy.”

At Management Mentors, we have had the pleasure of working with some amazing human resources professionals and can testify, firsthand, that the role of HR is ever-evolving. In today’s ultra-competitive workforce, your business can’t afford NOT to have a business mentoring program. After all, the skills of your company’s executives and employees are your most valuable assets. Corporate mentoring programs provide a means of cultivating those skills throughout your organization. This translates into talent retention (instead of turnover), happier employees and management, and a healthier bottom line (among other things!).

Human Resources is at the core of these organizational development enhancements. But, as Das has pointed out, some HR Departments and some organizations are slow to change. This article is a great reminder of the importance of becoming visionaries and looking into the future of your business.

At Management Mentors, we are curious to know what types of changes your company, and more specifically, your HR Department, has made over the past few years to accommodate the long-term success of your business? Have you added a mentoring program, are you developing talent from within, succession planning, strategically hiring? Please feel free to leave your comments below, and as always, please feel free to contact Management Mentors if you have any questions about how a business mentoring program can help YOU and your HR Department to become organizational development specialists today!
